You can pay for your membership at any time, and your scores will remain safe and intact in your scorecard. To view the expiration of your trial and to continue your membership, you can go to your account page.
To view the expiration of your trial and to renew your membership, you can go to the account page. You can pay by credit card, or by check, or via PayPal.
You can use MyScorecard.com to track you and your friends' handicaps. There are several ways to do so. If you want each member to be able to enter their own scores, view their own scorecard (and performance report), etc, you will need to have individual accounts. We would first recommend that you create a club by going to the Clubhouse page and pressing the 'Create a Club' button. This will enable all members to view each others scores and handicaps, and allow you to track points and easily calculate course handicaps for everyone. Once the club is created, each member should sign up (or you can sign up each member) by signing out of your account (by pressing the 'Sign Out' button in the upper right of your screen and clicking the link to return to the login page) and register your friends as new accounts. You will need to have different usernames for each friend, but all can have the same password. For each account, your friend will want to go into the Clubhouse Page and join your club (by clicking on the 'Join a Club' button and entering the Club ID and Password).

If you will be the only person entering scores and viewing all of the scorecards, there is a second option available to you. You can use the admin entry feature to track your golfers. The cost is your membership + ~$1-2 per additional golfer (less with more players). To sign up for admin entry, first form a club (by going to the Clubhouse Page and pressing the 'Create a Club' button). Then, as above, create accounts for your friends, and have them join the club. Once joined, sign back into to your account, go to your club, and select 'Club Admin Score Entry' from the 'Admin Actions' menu. If you need help creating the accounts or activating the admin entry feature, please let us know.
Actually, you are not supposed to delete any scores from previous years. Your scores from last year are supposed to be included in this year's calculation (if they are in the previous 20 rounds played). It's precisely for the reason that if you start over your handicap will not be as accurate with fewer scores.

If you want to know what your handicap would be for just this year, we've created a feature in your personalized performance report that will enable you to calculate your handicap for just this year. Just go to the Report/Analysis page, choose the yearly summary, and select the single-year handicap option.
If you are trying to enter a score but instead are taken back to the login page, then most likely your browser currently does not accept 'cookies.' This can often happen if you are running a firewall or have chosen higher security/privacy settings on your browser. Cookies are small bits of information that a server providers to the browser in order to maintain the 'session' or connection. Most browsers give you the ability to accept cookies in the Preferences menu (either overall, or for specific sites). Try enabling your browser to accept cookies.

For internet explorer (IE), the cookies preferences can be found by choosing Internet Options from the Tools menu. When the Internet Options dialog box comes up, choose the Privacy Tab. Now you have a choice of enabling cookies for just the MyScorecard site or for all sites.

To enable cookies for MyScorecard:
Press the Edit button on the lower right hand part of the box, enter www.MyScorecard.com in the address box that appears, and press the Allow button. You should see 'Myscorecard.com' appear on the left. Then press the OK button until you have closed the open dialog boxes.

To enable cookies for All sites:
For the newer versions of IE, you should see a vertical slide bar. You can now lower your privacy setting to Medium, which will ask you to allow cookies next time MyScorecard loads (as well as for many other sites). Otherwise, you can press the Edit button on the lower right hand part of the box, enter www.MyScorecard.com in the address box that appears, and press the Allow button.

If you allow cookies for MyScorecard.com, and does not fix the problem, please contact us for further assistance.
The Plain English Answer: Yes. The USGA has two "requirements" for a handicap to be official. The first is the calculation, and the handicap you receive on MyScorecard conforms to official guidelines and is the correct handicap. The second is what the USGA calls "group cohesion," and it means that you need to be part of a local group/club that is recognized by the USGA and conforms to its requirements. MyScorecard has these clubs on its web site, and we let you join these clubs easily and at no extra charge, in the same way you would join a club formed by one of your friends on the site - in fact, we also help you form them if you are interested in running your own official club (for friends, other MyScorecard members, or both). If you are part of one of these clubs on MyScorecard, you then meet both requirements, and yes your handicap is official (your club will be listed on the USGA web site).

The USGA Jargon Answer: MyScorecard offers official handicaps to members who are part of an Official USGA Club formed on its web site. There is no additional charge for forming or being a member of such clubs. MyScorecard allows the formation of "type 2" golf clubs (which we call "private," and is a club without real estate formed by members with pre-existing affiliation), or members can form or join a "type 3" golf club (which we call "open," and is a club without real estate, with recruiting through solicitation to the general public in a specific area like greater Chicago). MyScorecard facilitates the Official Club formation, application, peer review, group cohesion and maintenance process through its Web Site, and enables the club to issue Official USGA handicap cards to club members (you can print them out straight from the web site). Official clubs are recognized by the USGA, and are listed on the USGA web site. Official Clubs must adhere to USGA rules and requirements, including that of handicap committee, peer review, and group cohesion. You can form or join an official club by pressing the Clubhouse link in the navigation bar, and then selecting Find Clubs or Create Clubs link. For more on official USGA handicap requirements, please visit the USGA web site at www.usga.org.
You can edit your tees, statistics and notes by clicking on the edit scores link underneath your scorecard.

To edit your score, rating or slope, or date (anything that will impact the handicap calculation) you need to delete and re-enter the score. Why? The explanation lies in the old golf saying: "There is a reason why golf pencils have no erasers." While creating the site, our members told us that it should not be "too" easy to modify scores, because people might tweak their handicaps before a game to gain a stroke or two. As a result, to make one change is easy (just delete and add the score back in) but to make major changes is difficult.

We understand how certain changes can become tedious if you need to readjust all of your scores. If you need to make many changes (e.g., you made a mistake entering the slope of a course), please let us know and we can help you make them.
The courses in your course list are compiled from the scores you have entered. The number of scores used for your course list is set on the Preferences page (link at the top of your Scorecard). There you will see an option to choose the number of scores used for your course list. If you choose 50, that should give you a good amount of scores you can use.

Note that because they tend to be unique, for 18-hole handicaps we do not include 9-hole scores or combined scores in your course list.

To update the information for a course, you can simply change it the next time you enter a score. To retroactively change the specific information for a course, you will need to need to delete the relevant score (usually the most recent) and re-enter the information. If you have several changes or are not able to update the course, please email us with your username, the course name, the old information, and the new information. We will take care of the change for you.
We use the letter N to distinguish between 18-hole handicaps and 9-hole handicaps (to which we add the letter N). If you have golfers in your club with 9-hole handicaps, you should double them to correctly compare them to 18-hole handicaps. For more information on 9-hole vs. 18-hole handicaps, please visit the "Handicap Decoded" section of the Knowledge Center.

The L and J are meant to symbolize "local handicaps." For purposes of inter-club play, the USGA sets a maximum handicap index of 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women (18.2 and 20.2 for 9-hole handicaps). Any index that goes above that number is considered a local handicap. Local handicaps are denoted with an L (18-hole handicap) or a J (9-hole handicap).

An R next to your handicap indicates that you have scored well in a tournament - so well in fact that an adjustment is made to your handicap to reflect your good performance in a tournament (the calculation is made only after you have entered several tournament scores). The R stands for "Reduced." Adjustments for exceptional play in tournaments are part of the USGA handicap formula. More information on the handicap formula can be found in the Handicaps Decoded section of the Knowledge Center.
A handicap will be out of range when something in the calculation is amiss. Most often it will be one of the following four things:
  1. You may have switched the slope and rating numbers (The rating is usually between 65 & 75 while the slope is between 105 and 135).
  2. You are entering 9-hole scores, but entering in the full 18-hole slope (70.0 instead of 35.0).
  3. You may have misentered a score, slope, or rating, or have used a placeholder instead (ex:entering 1 for slope)
  4. You may have mixed nine hole and eighteen hole scores.
In the first two cases, you can fix the numbers to get a correct handicap. In the latter two, see the questions on this page that deal specifically with those issues. And if you have any other questions, you can always contact us at support@myscorecard.com.
